Japan pledged up to $550 billion to the US: about $109 billion selected, about $6.9 billion in loans signed

Under the trade deal struck on 22 July 2025, Japan pledged investments and loans worth up to $550 billion into US projects. By 19 March 2026 the two governments had selected six projects estimated at up to about $109 billion, and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) releases to 14 August 2026 show loan agreements signed for five of them totaling about $6.9 billion. This note sets out each stage, pledged, selected and signed, and what the releases do not show about money disbursed.
